It’s also the stone that celebrates the 2nd anniversary of marriage. The name ‘Garnet’ originates from the Latin word “Garanatus” which means seedlike. Some say this refers to the small red stones looking like the seeds of a pomegranate, which also have the same deep rich red hue. The extraordinary piece below is an Antique Victorian Hair Comb made up of rose cut pyrope Garnets. The rose cut has a faceted top and flat bottom and gems were often mounted in yellow gold, gold plate or mixed metals. Originally from mines in Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic, Bohemian pyropes cover this gorgeous piece. Ales and Maria Herdlicka donated it to the Smithsonian Institution in 1937. Popular through history because of its sumptuous red colour, the Garnet isn’t just prized as an ornamental jewel, it has strong curative powers and protective energies that make it invaluable. It is one of my personal favourites because of its sensuality and femininity. It represents primeval fire, purification and above all, Love. It is a stone of strong, intense feelings that, when used in a beautiful piece of jewellery can say a thousand words in an instant. For these reasons and more our client chose Garnet to ask his girlfriend a very important question! Roseanna and he worked together to design this exquisite ring.
