You have finally found the love of your life, the person you can see yourself married to for a lifetime. You want to live together and begin and/or join families and settle down. You’ve had girlfriends (or a wife) before, but none of them have been like her, she’s different. You need this ring to be perfect. So, how do you choose the best engagement ring for her? Let me help with these three important tips.
Gone are the days where big marketing companies and jewellery giants are telling you to spend three months salary. If you speak to a jeweller you can trust, I’m positive they’ll tell you to only spend what you can comfortably afford. You may have saved for this exact moment or you may be looking at this as an investment and possibly interested in payment plans, either way, there is no need to unnecessarily overspend.
The average UK spend on an engagement ring in 2019 was £2500. If you’d like a 1ct diamond solitaire I’d recommend putting aside at least £15,000 and if you’re looking for a beautiful gemstone engagement ring, I’d recommend spending at least £2500.

This may be the hardest bit, and this is why it is important to work with a jeweller you trust because you don’t want to end up with something gaudy that she hates. Fortunately, with our design process that isn’t possible as we work with you every step of the way.
Pay close attention to the clothes she wears and other jewellery she owns, she may even be dropping hints to you – pay attention. (Like hack – take some photos to your jewellery design appointment so the designer can also get a feel of her style.)
She may like something clean, modern and contemporary or something more floral and vintage, either way, with an effective design process you will end up with the perfect ring.

You may already have an idea in mind whether you would like a diamond engagement ring or a unique gemstone engagement ring but this is probably the most important decision you have to make as it will be the centre of attention in your design.
If choosing a diamond, you need to consider the 4C’s (the properties that determine a diamond’s value) Cut, Colour, Carat and Clarity – sound confusing? It isn’t actually that complicated although some jewellers like to make it sound that way. I have another blog on this – which is Part 2 in this series of how to choose the best engagement ring for your loved one!
And if you think you’d like a rare gemstone engagement ring then wait until the end of the week so you can read all about choosing the best gemstone engagement ring.
There are lots of important factors when it comes to choosing an engagement ring but please don’t let this put you off. A bespoke design will mean so much more to her than buying a ring from the high street. Working with a jewellery designer can be a wonderful experience so please contact us if you’d like to learn more about designing a bespoke engagement ring.
