We all have pieces of jewellery that we never wear but simply sit gathering dust in our jewellery box. Perhaps these pieces are sentimental, gifted or you have just grown out of the style they are. Many people will assume that unwanted jewellery is to be either kept in the bottom of a jewellery box - never to be worn again - or sold on for cash, which I would never recommend.

The cost of jewellery redesign is not about money it is about what the jewellery means to you, meant to you, and can mean to you again. Remodelling your old jewellery is an investment in you and your life.

Having a piece of jewellery redesigned can be a very rewarding process. Whether you have slightly adjusted the design of the piece or gone for an entire overhaul, you are probably wondering how the value of the jewellery has changed. My question to you is, what is the value of it if it's just gathering dust and not being worn?

In the last 6 years of running Roseanna Croft Jewellery I have always been looking for ways that I can create good and give back. I want to make the world a better place and I believe that starts with each individual doing their little bit to make a difference where they can.

Buying an engagement ring used to be the simple process of choosing a diamond and setting it in yellow gold, or maybe platinum and now, it can appear to be a minefield. This is in our opinion why some people can end up with a ring below par, because they didn’t know what to look for and ‘panic’ bought something without really thinking about it.

We had a lovely conversation so I asked her for some tips to share with you all about decluttering. Vintage, antique and heirloom engagement rings can be a beautiful choice but often require a little thought. You may have found the vintage engagement ring of your dreams, or been handed down an heirloom ring that has huge sentimental value, but your bride-to-be might still feel uncomfortable with the thought of wearing second-hand jewellery as her engagement ring.

Over the last few months I have been asked to look into the royal jewellery collection from Kate Middleton’s engagement ring to Queen’s brooches and the vast tiara collection available to the royal family. This has involved hours of research, staring at photos of exquisite events the jewellery has been worn to and trying to place a value on what these pieces are worth.

The second series of my jewellery podcast Design Your Legacy kicks off with and interview with Rachael Taylor, a jewellery journalist who built one of the most read jewellery magazines (Professional Jeweller) from scratch before choosing freedom with freelance journalism. Rachael is a mum of two and writes for the likes of the Financial Times, Condé Nast magazines, and Rapaport. She also runs The Jewellery Cut with co-founder Andrew Martyniuk, a platform that showcases independent fine jewellery designers through engaging editorial, sparkling social posts and live events, including a bi-annual jewellery showcase during London Fashion Week.

This last year and lockdown has thrown a real curveball into all our lives but today I want to focus on the positives. It has given us more of an opportunity to reflect on what is really important in life, rekindle some passion for long lost hobbies (as long as you don’t leave the house), realise how important family are, oh and clear out the kitchen cupboards.
