Garnet | January Birthstone

Overview The name ‘garnet’ comes from the Latin word ‘Granatus’ meaning seedlike, in reference to a pomegranate.  Small garnets are said to look like the bright red seeds you find inside the fruit.  Red garnets have a long history but these days you can choose from a rich palette of greens, oranges, purplish reds and even some blues.  Red is still the most common of the gems, whereas a green garnet (known as tsavorite) is much rarer.

Garnets they can be found in almost every colour of the rainbow. From the tropical green of the Tsavorite garnet to the deep crimson of the Almandine garnet. We love the variety of colours and how you can find one to match every style. This gives them a unique personality compared to other precious gemstones. The name “Garnet” comes from the Latin word for “Garantus” meaning “seedlike”. At first this seems like an odd reference, but it is often compared to a pomegranate. The intense red of their seeds reminds you of small garnets.

Garnets For The January Babies

Being half way through January I thought we could talk about January’s birthstone - Garnet. We find Garnet a luscious and very sexy gemstone. Garnets are found in many colours, the most common colour however, is red. In fact, the only colour garnets aren’t is blue, which is ironic as January is known as the ‘blue’ month, where spirits aren’t so high.
