At the end of last year, we were asked to design a bespoke piece for the Whirlow Hall Farm Trust’s Masquerade Ball.

We wanted this piece to be really special because of the status of the charity ball but also because of the amazing cause it would raise money for.

For those who don’t know, Whirlow Hall Farm Trust helps children and young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds and the inner city, to grow and reach their full potential.  They run programmes for children who are excluded, or at risk of exclusion, from mainstream education and host activities for youngsters who have additional educational needs – to help them develop life skills, grow in confidence and reduce the risk of isolation. Whirlow Hall Farm mainly help children in the Sheffield City Region, but their reach extends across South Yorkshire and beyond.

So, in short, they do amazing work and we were happy to support them and donate a piece of bespoke jewellery for their ball! The piece was to be the prize for their Heads or Tails game on the night of the ball, it helped raise over £2000. When we think of a masquerade ball, we think of Phantom of The Opera. My favourite musical and some of my favourite music of all time so this was the soundtrack for the creation of this piece. I actually listened to it as I was making it!

We sketched a couple of designs, this had to be a statement piece but stay chic and elegant. The shape of the design was originally inspired by feathers found on masquerade masks but then evolved into the curves found in patterns on lace masquerade masks. (This incidentally ties in well with our two new collections for 2018, The Feather and Lace!)

We made the final design in Sterling Silver and set a Pear shape, White Topaz at the bottom of one curve and micro-set Black Sapphires down the other curve. I think you will agree that the piece is eye catching!

On the night I believe nearly £20,000 was raised which is incredible and at Roseanna Croft Jewellery, we’re very proud to have been involved in this.
