The story of redesigning inherited jewellery to create a unique and totally original engagement ring

James originally came to me with a really simple idea to make an engagement ring for his girlfriend using rings he had inherited from family. Throughout our conversations we spoke about the jewellery he had been passed down and about what his girlfriend was like and the type of jewellery she wears. We took his ideas and transformed them into a design he knew she would love and a piece that would be cherished for a lifetime. When looking at the jewellery James had inherited, we discovered that some of the diamonds were actually cubic zirconia, which I wouldn’t advise using in an engagement ring. Some of the gold was 9ct and some was 18ct and when using your old gold, I advise to keep the purity the same.

After an open conversation with James, we decided to replace the cubic zirconias with diamonds in the same measurement to match the quality of the other diamonds we were using and bring the total purity of the gold to 18ct.

About the Jewellery

  • The design we settled on is an antique style cluster ring made to be practical, yet dainty and last a lifetime. It’s made in 18ct yellow gold with an 18ct white gold setting, the white metal helps the diamonds to appear white and give them extra sparkle. James knew that his girlfriend would love the floral and star like shape of the cluster that we made using marquise and round diamonds.
  • Redesigning old jewellery is a really special way to create an engagement ring. Not only does it make good use of jewels that would probably just sit unworn in jewellery boxes but it is also a way to keep old memories and tales alive. Redesigning jewellery gives old pieces a new chapter that you can cherish for a lifetime.

“Roseanna is a fantastic lady to deal with; she helped all the way through the process and answered all the questions I had to ask. She is very knowledgeable in her field and this shows with the ring she designed for me and my now fiancée, the first drawing she did was the one I fell in love with and how she managed to come up with the design so quickly from my briefing was fantastic to see I can’t thank her enough. I would give her more than five stars if I could. I would highly recommend her.”
