As a bespoke jeweller in London I take on many roles when creating your engagement ring and one of my favourite parts of the job is to find the right gemstone for you.
Our design process is a simple one but it is a process that has my heart and soul poured into it, and that of the people I work closely with.
Designing Your Engagement Ring
When you first come to me to begin designing your engagement ring, whether we meet virtually or at one of my bases in London, we talk about four things to determine the design; what the piece means to you and the story behind it; design styles you like and don’t like; your budget and the materials you want to use.
Sourcing the Perfect Gemstone for Your Engagement Ring
Sometimes, if we’re redesigning old jewellery to make an engagement ring, you may already have a Ruby or a Diamond perhaps as your main stone but if we’re designing from scratch one of the most important aspects is choosing the perfect centre stone.
How we do this is by getting to know you and your partner, what colours your soon to be fiancé loves, their lifestyle and if they have a favourite gemstone already. When we have some ideas, perhaps you’re looking for the perfect Morganite or Australian Sapphire then we can source some to have a look at.
I speak with all my trusted suppliers and in certain cases artisan miners (at Roseanna Croft Jewellery it is important to me to support small businesses and in this case independent miners and gem dealers in countries such as Tanzania and Sri Lanka) to source what I think will be what you’re looking for and bring you 2-4 options to look at. Enough to give show you what is available and not too much to overwhelm you.
Learning More About Your Gemstone: The Experience
I know that you have probably been researching about and saving for this engagement ring for months, if not years, so I want to make the process as simple and fun for you as possible. I also make sure the stones I show you are suitable to your budget because we appreciate the importance of this.
When I have sourced a few stones I think you will love, we meet in a secure location, probably at my office in The Goldsmith’s Centre in Hatton Garden, so we can view the gemstones privately. (Upon request I can also travel to your London home.) We spend time talking through the qualities, the values and the design options available such as whether we should set the Australian Sapphire in Yellow or White gold.
Once you have chosen the perfect stone, we begin the real design work that takes place over about two weeks, beginning with a sketch and finishing with 3D design. It is at the 3D design stage you see your bespoke engagement ring come to life. Once you are 100% happy myself and my team of expert craftspeople begin to create your one of a kind engagement ring.
It’s a simple and enjoyable process, I promise.
I know it may seem like a minefield, to choose the perfect gemstone and whether or not your partner will like it but that is why I always recommend bespoke jewellery design because you’re in control 100% of the way and have an expert on hand to guide you.
